Alternatives to Animal Experimentation – Updated Data Available

The European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM) is responsible for the validation and development of alternative methods of experimentation testing in Europe. The goal of the Centre’s scientists is continual refinement of the alternative methods to replace animal experimentation as much as possible. The Centre is advised by the Scientific Advisory Committee (ESAC), which consists of representatives of the member states of the European Union. The results of the Centre’s work are available in the DB-ALM (Database Service on Alternative Methods to Animal Experimentation). The database contains varied information, including detailed descriptions of the methods and how to implement them in the laboratory. The focus of the work is on the toxicological risk assessment of chemicals and formulations.
