China: New Rules for the Classification and Labeling of Chemicals
China has issued a new standard (announcement in Chinese) for the classification and labeling of chemicals. China thereby adapts its regulations to the requirements of GHS Rev. 8. The standard, GB 30000.1, Rules for the Classification and Labeling of Chemicals – Part 1: General Specifications, comes into force on August 1, 2025.
GB 30000.1 replaces the earlier standard, GB 13690-2009, General Rules for the Classification and Hazard Communication of Chemicals, which is essentially based on GHS 4.
The new standard adds a hazard category for desensitized explosives and defines terms, definitions, and abbreviations as found in GHS 8.
The following have been removed:
- Annex A: Examples of precautionary statements
- Annex B: Pictograms for protective measures
- Appendix C: Examples of GHS labels
