CLP: Changes on the Way

At the end of October, delegates of the member states of the European Union approved a change to the CLP Regulation (Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 CLP Regulation). The change involves Adaptations to Technical and Scientific Progress (ATPs).
The EU Commission is scheduled to publish the new ATP (Draft of The 10th CLP Adaptation Regulation) in February. It will take effect in August 2018.
The core of the new adaptation is the harmonization of Acute Toxicity Estimates (ATE). One goal of the harmonization is to assist in the classification of mixtures. Annex VI will therefore contain new and revised entries for 37 substances.
As of December 1, 2010, all substances, and, as of June 1, 2015 all mixtures, must be classified, labeled, and packaged according to the CLP Regulation. Only mixtures that were marketed before June 1, 2015 in accordance with the requirements of the preparation directive may still be sold until May 31, 2017.
It is the task of the EU Commission to adapt the CLP regularly by issuing ATPs that reflect technical and scientific advances. A good overview of the ATPs issues to date can be found at the REACH CLP Biocide Help Desk.
