Dangerous Products 2014

Every third product considered faulty comes from the People’s Republic of China. A good half of the products reported as substandard violate the German Food and Feed Law (Lebensmittel-, Bedarfsgegenstände- und Futtermittelgesetzbuch (LFGB)). Most of them deal with commodities for the home and leisure time, along with cosmetics like tattoo inks, makeup, skin creams, or hair coloring.

These are some of the results given in the current Report on Dangerous Products 2014 (Bericht über die gefährlichen Produkte 2014), recently published by the German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin (BAuA)). The report contains all the products identified by RAPEX, the European rapid alert system.

The report makes one thing clear: Companies are often overwhelmed when they try to adhere to the multiplicity of regulations, laws, and guidelines in a global market.
