ECHA Concerned About Incomplete REACH Dossiers

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published a new REACH Progress Report 2016. The document reports on the results of current dossier assessments. Last year, the assessors examined a total of 184 registration dossiers, primarily those for substances hazardous to human health and the environment that were manufactured in quantities larger than 100 tons. In 9 of 10 dossiers, critical data was missing, such as information on toxicity related to prenatal development, genetic and reproduction toxicity, and long-time aquatic toxicity. The ECHA informed the companies and asked them to provide the missing data.

Leaders of the ECHA objected to more than the missing data. Companies also failed to update data regularly, even though they are required to do so by Article 22 of REACH. In September of last year, we reported on this topic in a blog entry. In the press release announcing publication of the study, ECHA director Geert Dancet once again urged companies to keep their dossiers current, especially when they deal with substances link to special risks.
