EPA Makes Exposure Data Available

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) operates a portal (Chemical Safety for Sustainability (iCSS) Dashboard) that offers users valuable information on chemicals. The portal has been expanded significantly and now contains data on some 8,000 chemicals.

In the portal, users can find information on chemical structures, properties, exposure forecasts, and the materials contained in specific consumer products.

The portal is fed by data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Based on the survey’s data on exposure, bioactivity, and toxicokinetics, EPA scientists continually develop new computer models (see “New Era of Risk Assessment”). The goal is determine with ever-greater precision the concentration at which substances become a health risk.
