Guidance Document for Using the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances Safely

The German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsmedizin und Arbeitssicherheit: BAuA) has issued a Guidance Document (German only). The publication helps you, as a user, to determine whether or not the classification of a substance or mixture according to the requirements of the CLP Regulation has legal ramifications for you. You can also learn what the consequences are of a conversion from old to new classification and labeling.

On June 1, 2015, the Regulation on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP Regulation) fully replaced previously applicable guidelines for the classification and labeling of chemicals. Nonetheless, the still valid German Ordinance on Hazardous Substances is partially based on the old guidelines. Therefore, the BAuA worked with the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales: BMAS) to issue the guidance document. The BAuA has also provided additional announcements and ordinances related to the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances.
