Hazardous materials - regulated worldwide
Hazardous materials are substances, mixtures or articles, which, due to their nature, their physical and chemical properties, their toxicological or ecotoxicological properties or condition, are a threat for public safety or order, for important public goods or for the life or health of people, animals and other objects during transport. The Dangerous Goods Regulations have been largely harmonised worldwide for many years. The foundations are the UN Model Regulations (Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods). This framework is generally known as the "Orange Book". These rules are now accepted in many states and implemented. In some countries or regions, the UN Model Regulations have been adopted into national regulations. Usually, they are not taken over in full in the national regulations or national characteristics are added, so small but significant deviations may appear.
