REACH Guidelines for Small and Midsize Companies

The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin (BauA) has published the first part of its REACH Guidelines (Part A – First Steps), which is particularly aimed at small and midsize companies. The document also looks toward the upcoming major registration period that ends on May 31, 2018. Part B, Registration Dossier – Working with IUCLID, and Part C, Requirements for 10-100 t/a, will appear at a later time.

Above all, the first part clarified the practical requirements and preparatory work that must be observed during the initial creation of a registration/dossier. The authors answer questions like the following: How does a registration occur in REACH IT? How is a material to be identified according to REACH? How is the preparatory work related to the creation of a dossier? The guidelines do not cover the basics of REACH, the European law. Managers in companies should familiarize themselves with the basics ahead of time.
