Regulation for Data-Sharing on the Way

The REACH Committee, made up of representatives of EU member states, has unanimously voted for a regulation that would cover data-sharing between individual company representatives during registration of substances. In the past, representatives of small and midsize companies have complained that data has not been shared and that costs have not been broken down at all or were broken down inadequately, resulting in financial disadvantages.

The new regulation requires a clear breakdown of administrative and study costs. It also envisages a model for cost-sharing. For example, if additional potential registrants enter into an existing contract, costs are to be refunded to prior registrants. The sharing of the additional effort is also regulated, for example, when the ECHA requests follow-up information on a specific substance.

The regulation will soon be published in the EU Official Journal. It goes into force 20 days after publication.
