Taiwan: Mandatory Authorization Expected for Hydrofluoric Acid and Ammonia Nitrate
Taiwan plans to include both hydrofluoric acid and ammonia nitrate on its List of Concerned Chemical Substances. The list is part of the Taiwanese Toxic and Concerned Chemical Substances Control Act (TCCSCA). Nitrous oxide occupies the first position on the list; Hydrofluoric acid and ammonia nitrate occupy positions two and three, respectively. If both chemicals are included in the list, companies that manufacture the chemicals in Taiwan, import it into Taiwan, sell it there, use it there, or want to store it there, must notify the Taiwanese Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) of their intentions and request authorization:
The deadlines for the notifications are:
- June 1, 2022 for ammonia nitrate
- December 1, 2022 for hydrofluoric acid
In addition, companies must notify the agency monthly about the quantities of the chemicals that they use as follows:
- As of July 1, 2021 for ammonia nitrate
- As of December 1, 2021 for hydrofluoric acid
Military uses are exempt from the regulation.
