Japan – Work Safety and Health:
ISHA List Extended by 131 Substances
At the end of last year, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare (MHLW) added 131 substances to the list of chemicals mandated by the Industrial Safety and Health Act (ISHA).
The list contains the names of the substances and their chemical structures. It also assigns numbers to them.
Registration of new substances required
If you manufacture substances in Japan that are not on the list or wish to import them into Japan, you must first notify the MHLW. One year after registration, the Ministry publishes the names of the substances in the official gazette.
As of January 2025, the list covers 72,444 substances.
