REACH dossiers:
Two out of three are not up to date

Two out of three REACH dossiers that were re-evaluated in 2023 had data or information gaps. This is shown in the 5th Progress Report for Improvement of REACH Registration Dossiers, which CEFIC published at the end of May.

The report is an important indicator of the quality of REACH dossiers. It reveals the extent to which companies have implemented the action plan for reviewing and updating registration dossiers.

Action plan to drive forward review

As ECHA has repeatedly identified deficiencies in the review of registration dossiers to date, the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) presented an action plan in 2019 with guidelines on how companies can systematically review their dossiers. This is being implemented in close cooperation with the ECHA.

The plan bears fruit

CEFIC is calling on its members to support this plan. To date, around 200 companies have responded to this call; they regularly review their dossiers and resubmit them to ECHA.

Since 2019, companies have reassessed a total of around 4,000 dossiers. By the end of the action plan in 2026, companies want to review 5,200 dossiers. That is around 40 percent of the substances with complete registrations in the ECHA database, according to Cefic in its fifth progress report.
