REACH Dossiers:
Two of Every Three Are Out of Date

Of the REACH dossiers reassessed in 2023, two out of three had missing data or information gaps. That’s the finding of the 5th Progress Report for Improvement of REACH Registration Dossiers, published by CEFIC at the end of May.

The report serves as an important indicator of the quality of REACH dossiers. It reveals how far companies have progressed with implementation of the action plan for reviewing and updating registration dossiers.

Action plan to drive forward review

Because the ECHA has repeatedly identified deficiencies when reviewing registration dossiers to date, the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) presented an action plan in 2019 with guidelines on how companies can review their dossiers systematically. The plan will be implemented in close cooperation with ECHA.

The plan bears fruit

CEFIC is calling on its members to support the plan. To date, around 200 companies have responded to the call. They review their dossiers regularly and resubmit them to ECHA.

Since 2019, companies have reassessed a total of around 4,000 dossiers. By the end of the action plan in 2026, companies want to review some 5,200 dossiers. That number represents about 40 percent of the substances with complete registrations in the ECHA database, according to CEFIC in the fifth progress report.
