Toy Ordinance:
Parliamentary committee approves draft - EDCs banned in future
The European Parliament's Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) approved the EU Commission's proposal for the Toy Safety Regulation in mid-February. It will replace Directive 2009/48/EC. The regulation will be adopted by the new Parliament after the elections in June of this year.
Important for manufacturers and importers
In addition to carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic substances (CMR substances), the regulation also bans endocrine disruptors (EDC substances) in toys.
A digital product passport will also be mandatory for toys. This is intended to ensure that all toys placed on the market throughout the EU comply with the new requirements. At the same time, the passport, which will be accessible via a QR code, should relieve the burden on the relevant customs offices.
In future, the name and contact address, including e-mail addresses, must be indicated on the toy.
