Toy Safety Regulation:
Parliamentary Committee Approves Draft – EDCs to Be Banned in the Future

The Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) of the European Parliament approved the EU Commission’s proposal for the Toy Safety Regulation in mid-February. It will replace Directive 2009/48/EC. The regulation will be passed by the new parliament after the elections in June of this year.

Important for manufacturers and importers

In addition to carcinogenic, mutagenic, or reprotoxic substances (CMR substances), the regulation bans endocrine-disrupting substances (EDC substances) in toys.

A digital product passport will be mandatory for toys. It is intended to ensure that all toys placed on the market throughout the EU comply with the new requirements. At the same time, the passport, which will be accessible via a QR code, is intended to reduce the burden on customs offices.

In the future, the toy must indicate the name and contact address, including e-mail addresses.
