REACH Candidate List: ECHA Adds Further Substances of Very High Concern
In January, six more substances will be added to the candidate list. The Member State Committee has approved the expansion, as announced by the ECHA on its Web site. Inclusion on the list is a signal to the companies concerned to look harder for alternative substances.
The following lists the six substances and their uses:
- Octamethyltrisiloxane is used in a wide variety of applications, including car-care products, polishes and wax mixtures, detergents and cleaning agents, coatings and printing inks, plasters, fillers, thinners, and toners.
- o,o,o-Triphenylphosphorothioate is used in lubricants, greases, hydraulic fluids, metalworking fluids, and so on.
- Reaction mass of triphenylthiophosphate and tertiary butyl phenol derivatives is used in hydraulic fluids, lubricants, and greases.
- Perfluamine is used in electronic, optical and computer products, and electrical appliances.
- Tris(4-nonylphenyl, branched and linear) phosphite is used as an additive in adhesives, sealants, coating products, and polymers.
- 6-[(C10-C13) alkyl (branched, unsaturated) -2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl] hexanoic acid is used in hydraulic fluids and greases and in metalworking fluids.
If your company manufactures and/or imports these substances, you are subject to a number of obligations, include those that apply to the safety data sheet (SDS). For example, as the vendor of such substances, either as a pure substance or as a component of a mixture, you must provide your customers with an SDS. If an SDS is already present, you must update section 15 according to Article 31, 9, a of REACH.
We would like to draw your attention to our training course on the preparation of safety data sheets on April 1 and 2, 2025 (alternative date June 3 and 4, 2025).
