China Opens Online Platform for Registration of Hazardous Chemicals

On February 16 of this year, the Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) began operation of a new platform for the registration of hazardous chemicals (in Chinese). The National Registration Centre for Chemicals (NRCC) holds responsibility for the registrations.
For your company, it’s important to note only Chinese manufacturers and importers can register hazardous substances. If you intend to export chemicals into China, you must assign an importer to the registration and provide the importer with all the required information on the product.

Upon registration, every product receives a unique QR code that must appear on the label along with the required GHS notices.

The problem is that if you collaborate with several importers, each registration generates an individual QR code. You can avoid the flood of QR codes if you nominate one importer who registers the product and then distributes it to various customers.

Registration is required for:

  • Chemicals lists in the Catalog of Hazardous Chemicals (2015)
  • Chemicals that fulfill specific GHS criteria for classification and labeling
