Korean-REACH Deadlines in view

The South Korean chemicals law, also known as K-REACH, has been in effect since January 1, 2015. If you would like to export chemicals, mixtures, and polymers to South Korea, the requirements spelled out in K-REACH apply to you.

What Deadlines must I absolutely keep an eye on?

On December 31, 2021, the registration period ends for:

  • Carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reprotoxic (CMR) chemicals in a tonnage band >1 ton/year
  • Other chemicals in a tonnage band >1,000 tons/year

On December 31, 2024, the registration period ends for:

  • Chemicals in a tonnage band >100 tons/year

On December 31, 2027, the registration period ends for:

  • Chemicals in a tonnage band >10 tons/year

On December 31, 2030, the registration period ends for:

  • Chemicals in a tonnage band >1 ton/year

The deadlines related to the registration periods according to K-REACH are staggered according to the tonnage bands.

Note the differences

In general, the requirements in South Korea mirror those in the EU. However, there are differences that you must familiarize yourself with. The differences lie not only in the legal requirements, but also in the ways in which the government offices and agencies operate. It can be smart to put these services in the hands of those familiar with local circumstances.
