UK REACH: DEFRA Publishes Proposals for Registration Model and Opens Consultation

The Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has published proposals for a model (Alternative Transitional Registration model: ATRm) that would simplify the registration of substances for companies operating in the UK.

Specifically, it aims to relieve companies of the horrendous costs of substance data that they would incur when registering a substance. The government estimates the costs at about £2 billion. The high costs could deter companies from registering and lead to a shortage of substances on the UK market.

The consultation lasts eight weeks and ends on July 11.
