ECHA Recommends 18 Chemicals for the REACH Authorization List

The ECHA has recommended to the EU Commission that it include 18 chemicals in Annex XIV (Authorization List) of REACH. Because of their properties, all the substances are harmful to human health or the environment. The list currently contains 43 chemicals.

A public consultation last year preceded the ECHA recommendation. Last June, the Member State Committee (MSC) finally examined the comments made during the consultation and decided on its position.

As soon as the member states, the EU Commission, and the European Parliament approve the recommendation, the chemicals will be recorded in Annex XIV of REACH. They will then be subject to mandatory authorization and may not be used after the sunset date unless an authorization has been granted. However, obtaining an authorization involves a great deal of effort and expense.
