IUCLID 6 On the Way

IUCLID 6 will replace IUCLID 5 in mid-2016. Representatives of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) introduced what the replacement means for users. New items include fields with data on the substance profile and information on use and exposure. Government agencies want to use the information for material prioritization and to determine the necessity of additional regulatory measures.

IUCLID is software used to create and submit all registration dossiers for REACH. Data on the properties and use of chemical substances is captured, stores, maintained, and exchanged in IUCLID. Although the software was developed for REACH, it can be used in many ways. For example, many national international supervisory agencies recognize the IUCLID format. IUCLID 5 data can be used in various programs to evaluate chemicals. Examples include the OECD HPV Chemicals Program, the U.S. HPV Challenge Program, the Japanese Challenge Program, and in the context of realizing the EU Guidelines on biocidal products.

You can download IUCLID 5 software for simple applications at no cost here. The German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has also published helpful guidelines (in German only).
