OECD Guideline for Identification of Oleochemical Substances

The OECD has published Guidance for Characterising Oleochemical Substances for Assessment. The document supplements the ECHA guidelines on the identification and designation of such substances in REACH and CLP. The ECHA recommends that companies that manufacture or import oleochemical substances align their REACH and CLP submissions with the OECD guidelines.

Clear identification and classification of substances is important for most REACH procedures. Studies of the substances might have already been undertaken, so companies can access that data. If the substance can be identified with absolute certainty, expensive series of tests can be avoided in some cases – thereby saving costs.
