REACH Candidate List: ECHA Adds Further SVHCs

The ECHA has added five substances of very high concern to the REACH candidate list. In the future, these will be assessed by ECHA regarding potential inclusion in the list of substances subject to authorization (Annex XIV, REACH Regulation).

The five substances are:

  • 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenol: It is toxic for reproduction and persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT).
  • 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenol: It is very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB).
  • 2-(dimethylamino)-2-[(4-methylphenyl)methyl]-1-[4-(morpholin-4-yl)phenyl]butan-1-one: It is toxic for reproduction.
  • Bumetrizole: It is very bioaccumulative.
  • Oligomerization and alkylation reaction products of 2-phenylpropene and phenol: The products are very bioaccumulative (vPvB).

New informational requirements will apply to you as a manufacturer and/or importer of these substances. For example, you must:

  • Update the safety data sheets for these substances.
  • Notify the ECHA’s SCIP database if your products contain one of the substances in a concentration of more than 0.1% by mass.
