Switzerland: Ban on BPA and BPS in Thermal Paper in Effect Since June

Number 1, Paragraph 3 of the Swiss Chemical Risk Reduction Ordinance (ORRChem) took effect in June of this year. It forbids the use of thermal paper with a concentration by mass of 0.02% or higher of bisphenol A (BPA, CAS-No. 80-05-7) or bisphenol S (BPS, CAS-No. 80-09-1).

Switzerland is the first country to ban bisphenol A and bisphenol S.

Throughout the EU, the marketing of BPA in thermal paper has been forbidden since the beginning of the year as defined in EU Regulation 2016/2235. For information on the background and the results of the ban,  see our blog entry Bisphenol A Banned in Thermal Paper Throughout the EU.
