Turkey: Ministry of the Environment Wants to Extend REACH Registration Deadlines

The Turkish Ministry of the Environment has proposed extending the registration deadlines for REACH. The move is the ministry’s response to demands from industry representatives to give companies more time to register substances. The long delay that the Turks want to grant companies is a surprise.

The following new deadlines are pending:

December 31, 2026:

  • For manufactured and/or imported substances in the tonnage range > 1,000 tons/year
  • Likewise for CMR substances (carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic) in the tonnage range > 1 ton/year and
  • for substances that are very toxic to aquatic organisms in the tonnage range > 100 tons/year

December 31, 2028:

  • For manufactured and/or imported substances in the tonnage range 100 – 1,000 tons/year

December 31, 2030:

  • For manufactured and/or imported substances in the tonnage range 1 – 100 tons/year

Industry associations are now invited to comment on the proposal. The final draft with the final deadline extensions is expected before the end of the year.
