Turkey Strengthens Import Controls on Toys and Consumer Goods

In the future, Turkey wants to ensure better compliance with import regulations for imported toys and a variety of consumer goods. That’s way, as part of TAREKS, its risk-based trade control system), it published two notifications on December 31, 2022 that took effect the next day.

The first notification (only in Turkish) regulates compliance with legal requirements for the import of toys. They must conform to the requirements of Turkey’s toy safety regulation. With the second notification (only in Turkish), Turkey seeks to ensure that the import of certain products or materials comply with its REACH law (KKDIK). The following products are involved:

  • Tampons, hygiene pads, and diapers
  • Plastic gloves for use in the home
  • Plastic files and folders
  • Toilet seats for children
  • Costume jewelry
  • Watches and watchbands
  • Covers and screen protection films for mobile phones and tablets
  • Cases for cell phones and tablets
  • Mouse pads
